Itinerary

17 Day Africa Trip - Designed & Guided by Leslie Edwin

“You are never too old to have a happy childhood”

NOTE FROM OUR GUIDE:  Itinerary changes may occur but will not impact the quality of the tour. Africa is an amazing tourist area but a challenging one organizationally where the ability to be flexible is key. Things can go a bit awry now and then,  but I believe that with fun, humor and your sense of being on holiday adventure we’ll have a brilliant time. Best regards, Leslie

Sunday October 2: Departure

Day 1, Monday October 3 - Arrive Cape Town

  • Arrive Cape Town Certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Overnight at a beautiful hotel.
Day 2, Tuesday October 4

  • Full day tour of the Cape of Good Hope. You will see some of the most spectacular sea, mountain and beachscapes in the world – a truly spectacular adventure. See where the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans meet and hundreds of penguins too.
Day 3, Wednesday October 5

  • Full day tour of spectacular Cape Town including Table Mountain (should be a wonder of the World?) The most beautiful Botanical Gardens celebrate Cape Town being an entire Floral Kingdom on its own. The whole of North America and Russia are one Floral Kingdom (the Boreal Kingdom). Cape Town with just 150 sq. miles is a Kingdom on its own with all its own unique plant life in great abundance.
Day 4 , Thursday October 6

  • Full day Cape Wine lands tour. The wines are as good as anything in Napa valley and ten times more beautiful.
Day 5, Friday October 7

  • Fly from Cape Town to the Kruger National Park. We will spend five amazing nights at a private camp (only 20 people max in the safari camps that Leslie uses) with guaranteed sightings of all of the big five animals. We will stay at one camp for all six days that Leslie personally chose for the time of year that will have spectacular animal viewings of elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, and more that will make us think that we have joined the herd or the pride. This is a safari adventure of an emotional intensity that you will never forget. This will be a spectacular adventure safari that anybody can do.

Day 6, Saturday October 8

  • Six safari days in the grand tradition. At the end you will never want to leave. Each day begins with a 6am wake up call. Coffee, tea hot chocolate and snacks before we set of in the early morning for our safari run. Some time during the drive we will stop for biscuits and coffee. After four hours we will return to camp for a full brunch. Following that there will be time to relax, edit video/ camera footage, relax read or catch up on sleep.
Please note Leslie only chose camps that will have a very good chance of viewing animals (elephant giraffe and antelope,) from your deck.  At 4 pm, we set out again for an evening safari run that will continue into the night when we search for nocturnal animals using a powerful spot light - another great adventure.
  • Head out in the early morning and late afternoon because animals, unlike us, rest during the heat of the day and nothing moves in the bush once it gets hot. They are active and go to “work” when the day is cooling the early morning and evenings. The best time to safari is to view the animals when they are most active and working.
  • Leave the main door open at night (close only the mosquito screens) and hear the sounds of Africa at night when the bush is awake – the roar of lions, the laughing hyenas.
Day 7 - 10, Sunday October 9 - Wednesday October 12

  • Continue spectacular days on safari (all meals included).
Day 11, Thursday October 13

  • With a sad heart and with a vow to return some day we end our five day safari and fly to Johannesburg where we will spend the night  in this vibrant bustling very European City which is the “New York” of Africa.
Day 12, Friday October 14 - Zimbabwe

  • Today we fly 800 miles by commercial jet to another country in Southern Africa, namely Zimbabwe were we will stay at the one and only Victoria Falls hotel, the Grand Old Lady of the Grand Hotels world wide. Here we will visit Victoria Falls, a wonder of the world - five times the size of Niagara Falls. Overnight. Victoria Falls
Day 13, Saturday October 15

  • Free day for a host of optional extra high adrenalin activities in the little town of Victoria Falls. The best white water rafting in the world, you may bungee or helicopter the falls or just relax by the pool in this wonderful hotel.
Day 14, Sunday October 16 - Botswana

  • Transfer to Botswana by road (just 1 hour drive) for 3 nights on the banks of the Chobe River.
  • See the biggest elephant herds in the world and go on the best animal viewing cruise in all Africa. You will get close to hippo, crocodiles, elephants, and view them face on as the huge herds come down to drink.  Here we should see more species of antelope in South Africa such as the magnificent Sable Antelope.
Day 15, Monday October 17

  • Full animal viewing in Botswana where they have the greatest game cruises in Africa up close and very personal.  On Botswana’s far northern border lies Swando, Linyanti and Chobe River system forming a series of lakes, islands and floodplains. This area forms the Chobe National Park, famous for its large buffalo and elephant herds.  In addition to a variety of predators, there is an abundance of wild game and bird life, which decorate these beautiful waterways.  One game drive and one game cruise.
Day 16, Tuesday October 18

  • Full day game viewing on the Chobe River - prepare to be amazed!
Day 17, Wednesday October 19

  • Our safari African spectacular comes to an end. We will fly home direct from Vic Falls to Johannesburg and from there connect to your international flights back to North America. The Safari has ended but our memories Africa never will.
